First Session to discuss Young Adult ministry
Quick Facts:
When: Tuesdays at 6:30pm
Where: Sisters of the Cross Convent at 1320 Maze Blvd, Modesto CA
Why: To grow closer to Christ, learn more about God’s plan for our lives, and have fellowship with other young adults on the same pilgrimage to deepen their experience of God’s love.
How: Prayer, study of Sacred Scripture, and sharing our experience of God in our lives.
You are welcome to join us for a time of quiet prayer with Our Lord Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament beginning at 5:30PM in the Sister’s Convent chapel (1320 Maze Blvd.)
The regular meeting starts at 6:30PM in the Sisters of the Cross conference room. We will be praying and studying over Sacred Scriptures. We will be using the readings for the upcoming Sunday. To get the readings, you can access them from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) website at: http://usccb.org/nab/
In order to better prayer with the Scriptures, we are learning an ancient prayer technique called “lectio divina,” which is Latin for “holy reading.” In this prayer, we slowly and repeatedly read a text of Scripture (in our case we use the Gospel of the upcoming Sunday). We then meditate on a word or phrase that strikes us, have a quiet dialogue with God in His Word, and, finally, sit with God in silence allowing His word to touch us our deepest selves. Here is a Benedictine Monastery web page that gives a complete introduction to Lectio Divina.
These men are followers of St. Benedict (6th Century) and are trained in this prayer technique to hear the quiet whispers of God…
