The Effects of the Sacrament

• The person has all of their sins forgiven (original Sin  and “actual”)
• Become an adopted child of God
• Share in the Divine nature by adoption
• Become part of the Body of Christ, The Church

Prerequisites

• Godparents MUST be Baptized in the Catholic Church and have received the Sacraments of 1st Holy Communion and Confirmation
• If godparent is married, they must have been married in the Catholic Church
• Interview with parents
• Attendance to a Pre-baptismal class (within the last 2 years) is necessary for both parents and Godparents
