Today's Gospel tells us a beautiful story of Jesus' encounter with Zacchaeus, but this encounter has its complications and gossip (Luke 19:1-10). Zacchaeus wants to meet Jesus, but the people prevented him. This does not discourage Zacchaeus, but he springs into action and climbs a tree. Zacchaeus's action led him to have an encounter with Jesus who tells him: "Zacchaeus come down soon because today I am staying at your house." Seeing that Jesus is staying in Zacchaeus' house, the people began to murmur against Jesus, but Zacchaeus says something that earns him salvation, "Look, Lord, I am going to give half of my goods to the poor, and if I have defrauded someone, I will pay back four times as much."

“But in order that the liturgy may be able to produce its full effects, it is necessary that the faithful come to it with proper dispositions, that their minds should be attuned to their voices, and that they should cooperate with divine grace lest they receive it in vain. Pastors of souls must therefore realize that, when the liturgy is celebrated, something more is required than the mere observation of the laws governing valid and licit celebration; it is their duty also to ensure that the faithful take part fully aware of what they are doing, actively engaged in the rite, and enriched by its effects.” (Sacrosanctum Concilium, 11).

In this weekend’s gospel, the phrase “pray always without becoming weary” stands out to me. I have been in the position of administrator of St. Stanislaus for just over three months, and it has been a wonderful experience; not always easy, but wonderful. I need to remember that I cannot do everything all at once, and to “go slow,” as people remind me. This weekend and next weekend, there will be an opportunity presented to you - a call to serve your parish community - especially at the Mass.

In Paul's letter to the Philippians we find a statement about Christ, which says: "Assuming human likeness and appearing in his bearing as a man, he lowered himself, becoming obedient to death and a death on the cross" (Philippians 2, 8 -8) The words of the apostle speak to us of a Jesus who is "body and closeness", is the humanized God, made flesh like ours. It is of great importance for his followers (Disciples) not to forget the corporeal and relational dimension. Jesus relates to his environment through his body. God speaks through a human body. Jesus approaches through his body: He sees, hears and touches. Three verbs, three actions, three very human dimensions.

The dominant theme this Sunday is faith, as it is mentioned in all three readings. At the end of the first reading it states: "The just live by faith", a phrase that will be used by Paul and will later have an enormous impact on the Christian life. Jesus focuses on the efficacy of faith, even faith as small as a mustard seed. Finally, Paul exhorts Timothy to bear witness to his faith in Christ Jesus.

In this reflection I would like to start with two questions: Do you think it is important to evaluate our faith? How is your faith?

This Sunday is a reminder of the opportunity to give thanks for the priesthood and to honor and affirm our own priests. At our school, our priests play an important role in the life of our students. Whether it’s working with altar servers and lectors at Mass, visiting the classrooms to share and pray with students, providing spiritual and emotional support to families and staff in need or just being present to students at recess, our priests are vital to the life of the school and we are deeply grateful.

This weekend’s Gospel touches upon the subject of stewardship. As Christian stewards, we receive God’s gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly, share them lovingly in justice with others, and return them with increase to the Lord. As followers of our Lord Jesus Christ, Jesus calls us to be disciples. Christian stewards respond in a particular way to the call to be a disciple. Stewardship has the power to shape and mold our understanding of our lives.

In today's Gospel, Jesus narrates three parables: the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the last parable tells us about the son who spends the inheritance that his father gave him. The son leading a messy life wasting his assets, but there comes a time in his life when things are not going well and he understands that he has acted wrongly. After doing an examination of conscience, he returns to his father's house to ask his forgiveness. The father was waiting for him far from complaining and setting conditions for his bad behavior, he goes out to meet his son and receives him with a hug and kisses (Lk. 15: 11-32).

All of us, I suspect, knows what it is to be haunted by the specter of an unfinished project. We started out to make something or to do something, and when the task was partially completed, we laid it aside. Now, it just sits there day after day, reminding us of our poor planning or lack of resolve. The world is fairly filled with partly written books, partly painted pictures, partly earned academic degrees, and partly realized dreams.

Father, I give you thanks and praise for your promises to me as I age. With your presence in my life, I will still be productive, every day of my life until you take me home! And everyday I’m here you will care for me with your watchful eye. You will carry me through every triumph and every trial. Thank you that you are giving me a satisfying life that is filled with good things everyday. You are opening my eyes to the good things around me and gratitude is becoming my habitual response to your blessing!

Hello good people of St. Stanislaus!

I have been praying for all of you and our community. I want to remind you all about our Fall Festival coming up on September 23-25, 2022! I also want to invite all of you to be a part of it in someway or another. This would mean by attending one or all the events offered, or volunteering at one of the events, or donating towards one or more of the events.

I truly believe that the Lord has a perfect plan for all of us. When we read the lives of the people in the bible we can relate with there lives, but can we relate with their faith?

Faith moves mountains. I recall one day on vacation passing through the mountains in our car. My daughter look at me and said “Don’t sing it mom, I do have faith”. She was thinking of the song, If you had faith like a mustard seed.

It is time again to prepare for a new school year. As an educational ministry of the church, St. Stanislaus Catholic School is ready to start a new year, see our students again and get to know the new families who are joining us for the first time.

This Sunday’s gospel reminded us that “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.” This parish and school have been entrusted with the education, academically and spiritually, of our students.
