Ascension of the Lord
by Fr. Adrian Cisneros | 05/21/2023 | From the ClergyThis weekend we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord; Jesus Assends to be with his Father in heaven. This should not come as a surprise to any of his disciples, nor to us because He had told them what was going to happen.
Before he Ascends, he charges his disciples to go make disciples of all nations and also assures them that he will be with them always. Very soon we will celebrate Pentecost which is the descent of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit which we received at baptism, at confirmation and the one who hovers over the waters and the earth to help guide us and to direct our journey toward our heavenly homeland.
While we were not alive when walked this earth, we have to believe in the stories, the Word of God, which tells us of what he did while here, and we should allow ourselves to be consoled by the fact that he still continues to be with us always.
Our school principal has been here for over seven years and she has done wonderful work with our school students and their families, but this year will be her last here at St. Stanislaus. Her presence here was definitely appreciated by many and she will be missed. Like a pastor of a parish, Mrs. Hollcraft has grown close to this community of faith and while it is not easy for her to move on, this is a great transition and opportunity for her and she is leaving the school in a good place and in good hands with the next principal of our school. Thank you, Mercedes, for all the work you have done here, and very soon you too will not be with us here at St. Stanislaus, but you will remain with us united by our Catholic faith and in the impact you had here!
This past week I was on a much needed spiritual retreat and this week I am taking some time away, but as always, please be assured of my prayers for you, your families and the whole of St. Stanislaus. I do ask you to keep our parish, the Maze church repair project and me in your prayers; there is great power in prayer.
