Bishop Myron J. Cotta, D.D Monthly Reflection

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Last month we celebrated the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Jesus as we continued the journey of our Eucharistic Revival, a journey which will culminate with this month’s celebration of the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis. Now, with this month of July, the Church acknowledges it as a time to reflect on the Most Precious Blood of Jesus.

As the faithful, we know that one drop of Our Lord’s Most Precious Blood was more than sufficient to redeem us all. But Our Jesus, who loves us beyond all imagining, freely shed all his blood for us. Pope Clement beautifully states: “Let us fix our gaze on the Blood of Christ and realize how truly precious It is, seeing that it was poured out for our salvation and brought the grace of conversion to the whole world.” And St. John reminds us of the graciousness of the Father when he says: “And the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”(1 John 1:7).

As Scripture says: “He emptied himself.” The emptying of the Son of God, his kenosis, began at the moment of his Incarnation; was manifested in his Passion; and was complete, finished, by his Death on Mount Calvary. Out of love for you and me, He gave until he had no more to give!

“In him and through his blood, we have been redeemed, and our sins forgiven, so immeasurably generous is God’s favor to us.” (Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians 1:7)

Adore His Most Precious Blood. Receive His Most Precious Blood. Be Revived!

Most Precious Blood of Jesus, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Amen.

In the Peace of Christ,

Bishop Cota
