The Baptism of the Lord

by Deacon Oscar Cervantes  |  01/12/2025  |  From the Clergy

Today we celebrate the baptism of the Lord as we can hear in the first reading how God the Father presents us with his beloved Son in whom he is pleased, but he also reminds us that it is through Jesus that salvation will come to all of us, yes, through baptism Jesus helps his chosen people by sharing that baptism to reincorporate us to God the Father. Later, Peter shows us how Jesus shares this salvation without distinction to all nations, whoever they may be, since we are all children of God.

John recognizes Jesus by saying that he is not worthy of even untying the straps of his sandals and announcing that he will not only baptize us with water like him but also with the Holy Spirit. Yes, brothers, Jesus is so good that he took up the cross for all of us and it is through this cross that he shares the kingdom of God with everyone and invites us to die to sin and be reborn to eternal life, but it does not end there, he also shares with us to be a priest, prophet and king. So that every baptized person may bring the good news to all those who do not know him, doing good to all as Jesus himself gives us the example of fulfilling the will of the Father.

That is why we must all proclaim the good news not only with words but with good works to others, since God knows everything and will give the strength to carry out his work through all the baptized.

Long live Christ the King
