Pentecost
by Rev. Adrian Cisneros | 06/08/2025 | From the ClergyCome Holy Spirit fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.
You have probably heard this as a prayer or heard it as the gospel antiphon this weekend. This is a popular prayer to the Holy Spirit, and this weekend we celebrate Pentecost-fifty days after Easter and the end of the Easter season.
We hear in the gospel this weekend “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me so I send you. And when he had said this he breathed on them and said to them: receive the Holy Spirit, whose sins you forgive are forgive them and whose sins you retain are retained.”
Allow yourself to be open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, especially in making big decisions, in having big conversations, pray to the third person of the Trinity-the Holy Spirit, asking for this guidance.
The Spanish Charismatic renewal group has been having prayers and meetings all this past week and they held the big Pentecost vigil at our church on Maze Saturday night-a big celebration for the group. The Modesto Portuguese Pentecost Association (MPPA) is holding their annual festa of the Holy Spirit this weekend at their hall and the J St. Church- a week-long celebration and prayer, parade procession and a lot of delicious food! They have been doing this in the Modesto/St. Stanislaus community for about 100 years. What beautiful Traditions we have in out Catholic Church and what great traditions we have in our local Catholic Community!
Offer a prayer to the Holy Spirit this week, asking the Spirit to kindle in you the fire of God’s love!
