Stewardship

This weekend’s Gospel touches upon the subject of stewardship. As Christian stewards, we receive God’s gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly, share them lovingly in justice with others, and return them with increase to the Lord. As followers of our Lord Jesus Christ, Jesus calls us to be disciples. Christian stewards respond in a particular way to the call to be a disciple. Stewardship has the power to shape and mold our understanding of our lives.

We are to be stewards of creation, stewards of vocation, and also stewards of the Church. As the administrator of St. Stanislaus, I am to be a steward of the spiritual and temporal goods of the parish and school. This is a HUGE responsibility, and I have to do it in a prayerful and considerate way and with discernment. I will tell you up front-to do this takes patience; patience from you as well as with myself.

I too want to do everything all at once and want everything done well and right now! But this is not always the way of faithful stewardship. As difficult as that may be to accept, please have patience, and I also encourage you to step up and help me in stewarding our community. One way you can be a good steward of the church is to participate in and volunteer or donate towards our Fall Festival which is next weekend. I invite all of you to be a part of this community event.

Central to our human and Christian vocations, as well as to the unique vocation each one of us receives from God, is that we be good stewards of the gifts we possess. The Spirit shows us the way. Stewardship is part of that journey. Please pray for me and our community of St. Stanislaus!
