Lent Reflection

When we are having a party at home, we take the time to prepare for it. We clean the house, we cook, we do some grocery shopping, and we try our best to make our house look the best possible.

The Church does the same. We always take some time to prepare the feasts. For instance, we take about four weeks to prepare for the birth of Baby Jesus (Advent).

We, the Church, take forty days to prepare for the biggest of all feasts, the resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday; this is the day when we acknowledge that we are sinners and we need God’s mercy, this is what the ashes on our forehead mean.

Don’t wait until it is too late to ask God for mercy, for forgiveness, and to thank Him for all the blessings and graces we have received in our life.

Take what I call a “spiritual selfie” on Ash Wednesday, and then another one on Easter Sunday. If there was no change, then we have wasted a golden opportunity to be closer to God.

I pray that each one of us will take the time to reflect and grow in our faith during this Lent, so we can joyfully encounter the resurrected Christ on Easter.
