Resolutions for New Year

Dear friends.

We have started a new year, 2023, one more cycle in our life that is placed in front of us. And at the beginning we are reminded of the beautiful text of Saint Matthew who says: "... in the time of King Herod, some wise men who came from the East appeared in Jerusalem, saying: "Where is the king of the Jews who has been born? For we saw his star in the East and we have come to adore him” (Cf. Matthew 2,1-2). Those men who came from distant lands embark on a journey, in front of them a new horizon opens.

Getting on our way, that should be the main purpose or invitation, letting ourselves be guided by the Star/Light/Jesus Christ/Gospel. It is not easy to undertake this walk, perhaps we let ourselves be carried away by our fears, fears and insecurities. It is hard for us to leave our comfort zone. To embark on this new path, we require courage, effort and perseverance. Having the ability to let go and renounce everything that ties, ties and enslaves us.

As believers and followers of Jesus Christ, I propose some resolutions to work on in this new year:

May our community of faith (Church) be a mother to everyone, especially those who feel orphaned.

May our homes/families be "tents" with open doors, a refuge for so many.

May peace and reconciliation be everyone's task, leaving behind all desire for revenge and resentment.

May men and women who suffer violence find people and spaces of hope, where life and their dignity are respected.

Surely there will be no shortage of "Herod" who wants to prevent us from advancing in this new journey. It would be essential today more than ever to listen to the voice of God and know how to avoid everything that keeps us from this new path.

May you have a year 2023 in peace and harmony, from the hand of the Good Shepherd.
