This Sunday is the Second Sunday of Easter. Holy Mother Church exhorts us to continue to possess the joy and hope that is in our hearts because of the Resurrection of Christ Jesus our Lord.

In this Sunday’s Gospel, we hear another resurrection narrative. St. John, the Evangelist tells us the story of the encounter of the disciples with the risen Jesus. It happened on the evening of the first day of the week. The disciples were gathered in a closed room because they were afraid that the Jews would persecute them just like what they did to Jesus. It was during this time when the Lord made His presence felt to His beloved disciples.

Este domingo es el segundo domingo de Pascua. La Santa Madre Iglesia nos exhorta a mantener la alegría y la esperanza que habitan en nuestros corazones gracias a la Resurrección de Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor.

En el Evangelio de este domingo, escuchamos otro relato de la resurrección. San Juan, el evangelista, nos relata el encuentro de los discípulos con Jesús resucitado. Ocurrió la tarde del primer día de la semana. Los discípulos estaban reunidos en una habitación cerrada por temor a que los judíos los persiguieran, como hicieron con Jesús.

“Repent and believe in the Gospel!”

Do those words “ring a bell?” This command was given to us on Ash Wednesday. Well? “How are we doing?” Have we repented? Have we welcomed and opened our minds and hearts to the Gospel?

My sisters and brothers, the Lenten season, Holy Week, the Triduum, and Easter beg us to reflect on the necessity to be reconciled and restored in our relationship with the Lord before his Coming and the time of judgment. Be it the “resurrection of life” or the “resurrection of condemnation” as mentioned in the Gospel of John, Jesus reminds us: “I judge as I hear, and my judgment is just…”

"¡Arrepiéntanse y crean en el Evangelio!"

¿Esas palabras "te suenan"? Este mandamiento nos fue dado el Miércoles de Ceniza. Bueno —¿Cómo vamos? ¿Nos hemos arrepentido? ¿Hemos acogido y abierto nuestra mente y nuestro corazón al Evangelio?

Mis hermanas y hermanos, el tiempo de Cuaresma, la Semana Santa, el Triduo y la Pascua nos invita a reflexionar sobre la necesidad de reconciliarnos y ser restaurados en nuestra relación con el Señor antes de su venida y el tiempo del juicio. Ya sea la "resurrección de la vida" o la "resurrección de la condenación" como se menciona en el Evangelio de Juan, Jesús nos recuerda: "Juzgo según oigo, y mi juicio es justo..."

Even though the buds on the trees have begun to open up, and the calendar says it's already Spring, we are still in the penitential season of Lent. New growth is visibly bursting outside, but inside the church it looks a little less celebratory. This should also be our spiritual life, we should be building up an interior anticipation, just like last Sunday-Laetare Sunday, we are almost there but not quite yet. We should be sensing some sort of interior conversion so as to be even more ready to celebrate the Resurrection!

Aunque los brotes de los árboles ya han empezado a abrirse y el calendario marca la primavera, aún estamos en la época penitencial de la Cuaresma. Afuera, los nuevos brotes brotan visiblemente, pero dentro de la iglesia el ambiente es menos festivo. Esta también debería ser nuestra vida espiritual: deberíamos estar cultivando una anticipación interior, como el domingo pasado (Domingo de Laetare); casi llegamos, pero aún no. ¡Deberíamos sentir algún tipo de conversión interior para estar aún más preparados para celebrar la Resurrección!

“A man had two sons…” once we hear those words from the Gospel, almost everyone would recognize that this is the story of the “prodigal son”. I personally would call it the story of the “merciful father”, as I see that he never lost hope that his son would return one day.

The story has three main characters, the son, the father and the brother.

"Un hombre tenía dos hijos..." una vez que escuchamos estas palabras del Evangelio, casi todos reconoceremos que esta es la historia del "hijo pródigo".  Personalmente, la llamaría la historia del "padre misericordioso", ya que veo que nunca perdió la esperanza de que su hijo regresaría algún día.

La historia tiene tres personajes principales, el hijo, el padre y el hermano.

El pasado mes de septiembre tuvimos el 61º Festival Anual de Otoño y, si bien ha tenido un aspecto diferente a lo largo de todos esos años, ¡2024 fue uno de los más grandes, si no el más grande, en la historia de la parroquia!

Su apoyo, participación y entusiasmo fueron clave para que celebráramos como una comunidad más amplia y, además, recaudamos una gran cantidad de fondos para la parroquia y la escuela. Estoy inmensamente agradecido con las copresidentas del evento, Cathy Pietanza y Jessica Juárez, y con todas las personas que dirigieron una parte del festival y donaron su tiempo ese fin de semana y después. ¡Gracias!

Dear St. Stanislaus Family,

This past September we had the 61st annual Fall Festival, and while it has looked different over all those years, 2024 was one of, if not the biggest in the history of the parish!

Your support, participation and enthusiasm were key to helping us celebrate as a broader community and also bring in a lot of funds for the parish and the school. I am immensely grateful for the co-chairs of the event-Cathy Pietanza and Jessica Juarez and every person who headed up a part of the festival and who donated their time that weekend and beyond-Thank you!

¿Dónde está la presencia cercana y misteriosa de Dios en mi vida? ¿Dónde palpo esa relación de Jesús amigo cercano a mí? Estas preguntas nos pueden ayudar a comprender el misterio de la Transfiguración de este segundo Domingo de Cuaresma. Pedro, Santiago y Juan fueron testigos oculares de una presencia de Dios diferente a la que vivían todos los días con Jesús. De alguna manera, con esta experiencia se abren sus ojos y reconocen que con Jesús está presente el mismo Dios. Es por eso, que, Pedro desea quedarse para siempre en ese lugar: “Maestro, ¡qué bueno que estemos aquí! Levantemos tres chozas: una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías. Pero no sabía lo que decía” (Lucas 9:33).

St. Thomas Aquinas said that friends share three things: time, possessions and secrets. For example, how do I know if you’re my friend? Well, let’s say we’ve been to Mexico together, you’ve tried my shaky attempts at pasta carbonara, and you know what ridiculous costume I wore in a music video I filmed in my early twenties. We, dear reader, are definitely friends. We’ve shared time, possessions and secrets.
