My Dear People of God,

Did you know that our Diocese of Stockton covers over 10,000 square miles and encompasses six counties stretching from Lodi to the north; Newman to the south; Mammoth Lakes and the Mother Lode to the east and Tracy to the west. Within these boundaries of our diocese, we have 35 parishes and 14 missions. Did you know that our diocese is divided into designated regions called: vicariates or deaneries? Presently, we have eight deaneries. The Deaneries are overseen by eight priests appointed by the bishop to serve as Deans. So, how am I, as a bishop, capable of accomplishing the responsibility to: govern, teach and sanctify over 300,000 Catholics? Did you know that each diocese has a structure, consisting of clergy and laity, that assists the Bishop in his duties as Bishop?

Sabían ustedes que nuestra Diócesis de Stockton cubre más de 10,000 millas cuadradas y abarca seis condados que se extienden desde Lodi al norte; Newman al sur; Mammoth Lakes y Mother Lode al este y Tracy al oeste. Dentro de estos límites de nuestra diócesis, tenemos 35 parroquias y 14 misiones. ¿Sabía usted que nuestra diócesis está dividida en regiones designadas llamadas: vicariatos o decanatos? Actualmente, tenemos ocho decanatos. Los decanatos son supervisados por ocho sacerdotes nombrados por el obispo para servir como decanos. Entonces, ¿cómo soy yo, como obispo, capaz de cumplir con la responsabilidad de: gobernar, enseñar y santificar a más de 300.000 católicos? ¿Sabía usted que cada diócesis tiene una estructura, formada por clérigos y laicos, que asiste al Obispo en sus deberes como tal?

¡Saludos en el Señor Jesucristo! Mi nombre es Padre Jovy Roldan. Tengo la bendición de ser asignado como uno de los dos nuevos Pastores Asociados de la Iglesia Católica de San Estanislao. Es un gran privilegio servirles. Quisiera comenzar agradeciendo al Padre Adrian Cisneros. Nos hemos comunicado brevemente las ultimas semanas de Junio, y ha sido grandioso llegar a conocerlo. También estoy deseando trabajar con el Padre Jeff Wilson y el Padre Sergio Arcila, de los que he oído hablar muy bien.

Greetings in the Lord Jesus Christ! My name is Father Jovy Roldan. I am blessed to be assigned as one of two new Associate Pastors of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. It is a great privilege to serve you. I would like to start by thanking Father Adrian Cisneros. We have briefly communicated the last few weeks of June, and it’s been great getting to know him. I also look forward to working with Father Jeff Wilson and Father Sergio Arcila, of whom I have heard many good things!

Attention everyone! School is back in session, and we're excited to welcome the many new students and their families to the St. Stanislaus community!

What a hot, busy and exciting summer we are having so far!

Praise be to God we are finally back in the church on Maze Blvd. It took a lot to get here, and we had the help of A LOT of people the last few weeks leading up the the re-opening and a lot of great help re-opening weekend. From food, to table and tent set up, to tour guides to dessert, adoration and singing-what a blessed and beautiful weekend, and I could not have thought of a better 5 year anniversary of my priesthood on July 6th! Thank you to everyone who helped me and our parish.

¡Qué verano tan caluroso, ajetreado y emocionante estamos teniendo hasta ahora!

Alabado sea Dios, finalmente estamos de regreso en la iglesia en Maze Blvd. Nos costó mucho llegar hasta aquí, y tuvimos la ayuda de MUCHAS personas las últimas semanas previas a la reapertura y mucha ayuda durante el fin de semana de reapertura. Desde la comida, hasta el montaje de las mesas y carpas, los guías turísticos, el postre, la adoración y los cantos, ¡qué fin de semana tan bendecido y hermoso, y no podría haber pensado en un mejor quinto aniversario de mi sacerdocio el 6 de julio! Gracias a todos los que me ayudaron a mí y a nuestra parroquia.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Last month we celebrated the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Jesus as we continued the journey of our Eucharistic Revival, a journey which will culminate with this month’s celebration of the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis. Now, with this month of July, the Church acknowledges it as a time to reflect on the Most Precious Blood of Jesus.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo:

El mes pasado celebramos la Solemnidad del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Jesús mientras continuamos el camino de nuestro Avivamiento Eucarístico, un camino que culminará con la celebración de este mes del Congreso Eucarístico Nacional en Indianápolis. Ahora, con este mes de julio, la Iglesia lo reconoce como un tiempo para reflexionar sobre la Preciosísima Sangre de Jesús.

“¡Oh, Jesús, amor mío, mi vida...!, ¿cómo hermanar estos contrastes?

¿Cómo convertir en realidad los deseos de mi pobrecita alma? Sí, a pesar de mi pequeñez, quisiera iluminar a las almas como los profetas y como los doctores. Tengo vocación de apóstol... Quisiera recorrer la tierra, predicar tu nombre y plantar tu cruz gloriosa en suelo infiel. Pero Amado mío, una sola misión no sería suficiente para mí. Quisiera anunciar el Evangelio al mismo tiempo en las cinco partes del mundo, y hasta en las islas más remotas... Quisiera se misionero no sólo durante algunos años, sino haberlo sido desde la creación del mundo y seguirlo siendo hasta la consumación de los siglos...

O Jesus! my love, my life... how to combine these contrasts?

How to fulfill the desires of my poor little soul?... Ah! despite my smallness, I would like to enlighten souls like the Prophets, the Doctors, I have the vocation to be an Apostle... I would like to travel the earth, preach your name and plant your glorious Cross on the unfaithful ground, but, oh my Beloved, a single mission would not be enough for me, I would like to announce the Gospel at the same time in the five parts of the world and even in the most remote islands... I would like to be a missionary not only for a few years, but I would like to have been so since the creation of the world and to be so until the consummation of the centuries...

The value of sacred spaces

The Second Book of Chronicles tells us: “When Solomon finished his prayer, fire came down from heaven and devoured the burnt offering and the sacrifices. The glory of the Lord filled the temple, and the priests could not enter it because the glory of the Lord filled the temple. The Israelites, when they saw the fire and the glory of the Lord coming down to the temple, fell on their faces to the ground on the pavement and worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, because he is good, because his mercy endures forever” (2 Chronicles 7:1- 3)

El valor de los espacios sagrados

El Segundo libro de las Crónicas nos cuenta: “Cuando Salomón terminó su oración, bajó fuego del cielo, que devoró el holocausto y los sacrificios. La gloria del Señor llenó el templo, y los sacerdotes no podían entrar en él porque la gloria del Señor llenaba el templo. Los israelitas, al ver que el fuego y la gloria del Señor bajaban al templo, se postraron rostro en tierra sobre el pavimento y adoraron y dieron gracias al Señor, porque es bueno, porque es eterna su misericordia” (2 Crónicas 7, 1-3)

Es con profundo agradecimiento y amor que me dirijo a ustedes a través de este artículo para el boletín. Quiero expresar mi profundo agradecimiento a todos y cada uno de ellos. Estoy profundamente agradecido por el privilegio de servir como su sacerdote y por las muchas maneras en que ha enriquecido mi vida. Solicito sus oraciones al comenzar mi ministerio en San Antonio en Hughson. Y sepa que continuaré orando por ustedes.
