As a young, newly ordained priest, I admired a senior priest who was gifted, beloved, and had changed countless lives. But soon I learned that he had fallen in catastrophic and destructive ways. The painful juxtaposition of good and evil was complex to process. How could someone so seemingly good also be so broken and deceptive? It forced me to confront a sobering truth: leadership in the Church is no guarantee against weakness or sin.

No sé si alguna vez en tu vida has tenido miedo a algo o a alguien, y te has dado cuenta de que el miedo paraliza: no te deja avanzar, incluso te ciega y no te permite ver. Muchas veces, las causas del miedo son falsas y solo sirven para amedrentar a la persona y dejarla sin esperanza. El miedo también nos quita la paz y nos impide hacer planes para el futuro.

Cuando Estamos Abrumados

Enfrentarse a desafíos difíciles puede ser una experiencia estimulante que inspira lo mejor de nosotros. Pero esto solo ocurre si contamos con recursos o habilidades adecuadas para el reto. Los atletas talentosos que se enfrentan al reto de participar en los Juegos Olímpicos pueden estar motivados hasta dar lo mejor de sí. Pero las personas discapacitadas ni siquiera podrían considerar tal desafío. En lugar de sentirse inspirados, podrían sentirse abrumados incluso de pensar en tal hazaña.

When We Are Overwhelmed

Facing difficult challenges can be a stimulating experience, inspiring the best in us. But this is the case only if we have resources or skills appropriate to the challenge. Gifted athletes faced with the challenge of participating in the Olympic Games might be motivated to their finest effort. But handicapped persons could not even consider such a challenge. Instead of being inspired, they might be overwhelmed to even think about such a feat.
